City-eyes addresses the border between the private and public domain. Subject of research are the Amsterdam windows: as windows are the eyes of the city. City-eyes offers a personal view into the souls of Amsterdam homes and thereby reveals the city's hidden stories.

All window events are miniature test cases, playing with the characteristics of the window as a screen between interior and exterior. This way, one's private parquet will be part of the outdoor pavement for a moment, and the city becomes home.

window event 04
title: SHOPWINDOW
date: Sunday May 25th
window: Leidsestraat 30

The Leidsestraat is busy during daytime, but deserted at night. Window event 04 countered this activity by blinding a shop window with mirroring foil. During daytime, the shop appeared closed and passing-by shoppers suddenly were confronted with their own image. From inside the shop, the unaware public could be examined. At night the voyeuristic effect altered: as it darkened outside, the interior exposed itself onto the street.

window event 02
title: MIRROR
date: Friday April 25th
window: Private home, Jordaan

Jo Flanagan, inhabitant of the Jordaan-home, is surprised about the effect of the mirror. "Both inside and outside it works really well. I've already had a group of girls in front of the mirror while I was using it inside. I felt pleasantly private yet simultaneously connected. This morning there was a man fixing his moustache. It adds some extra square meters to my livingroom!"

window event 01
title: WELCOME
date: Friday April 18th
window: Private home, St Nicolaasstraat

Moreover, foils blind windows in the city. The transition between home and street hardens, and urban contact diminishes. Subject of research of window event 01 was the foil window. Unaware passer-bys in the street became part of the installation, and saw their own reflection endlessly mirrored inside the house and the window. Inside became outside and outside turned inside. Those who partied outside were welcome inside at the party.
